Sweet Dalmatian puppy needs a good home
No, I’m not talking about Friday, but the similarities are striking. Blue is only 19 weeks old, but he has had a rough start in life, as he has already had at least 4 homes. He needs a forever home with someone who understands the breed, and who has the patience and time to help him settle in. He suffers from separation anxiety, so he really needs a home where people are present most of the time while he is adjusting. Like most playful youngsters, he would benefit greatly from having another young, active dog in the home. If not for the 3 old dogs, I would probably have already brought Blue to our house, but I know my limits!

And they all lived happily ever after…
At least I hope so! After 6 weeks on Petfinder, we found a really wonderful family for Friday. The only problem was that they didn’t have another dog. They had recently lost their Dalmatian, and were looking for another. They would have given Friday a wonderful life, but we were very concerned that his anxiety over being alone would result in problems for them. As luck would have it, another young Dalmatian named Zorro was surrendered to the Chehalis shelter about the same time. I check for Dalmatians on Petfinder.com daily, and contact shelters that have Dalmatians to determine if they are at risk, so I don’t have another “Very sad day”. To make a long story short, we’ll skip to the numerous happy endings. Zorro has been adopted by the wonderful family that would have adopted Friday, and Friday is going to stay with us. He celebrated by helping my husband play video games.
Doesn’t he look helpful?
Scrubbed, but not spotless
We had a big adventure over the weekend, when we took all three of the boys to Scrub-a-Mutt, a charity dog wash that raised funds for local animal groups, including our beloved Old Dog Haven. The event was organized by Harley’s foster mom. It was great for him to be reunited with old friends, and they really gave him the royal treatment. He adored it, as you can see from the photo! The dogs really enjoyed the socializing, but Friday was not so enthused about the bath. After seeing how much fun the old dogs had, we decided to take them to the Mutt Strut in Everett this Saturday.
A very sad day
I’ve been meaning to put together a “dog blog” for months, in the hope of reaching other like minded people who might be interested in creating a rescue network for Dalmatians in need. Since the loss of my best friend Jasmine in April, I’ve adopted Harley, an elderly fellow who was rescued by the good people of Old Dog Haven. Next came Admiral, another old fellow whose owner was leaving the state. Next came Friday, the Dal mix puppy who was set to be euthenized after only 5 days in a shelter in Idaho. I continue to keep track of Dalmatians listed in Petfinder. This weekend, 2 beautiful fellows were listed by a local shelter. I called to ask about them yesterday in the morning, and got the answering machine. When I called again in the afternoon, I was informed that the dogs had been surrendered by their owner, who had lost their home, and that the dogs were going to be destroyed this afternoon, because of aggression toward other dogs. Aggression is not uncommon for dogs who under extreme stress. My own beloved Jasmine would have shown aggression toward other dogs in that situation. The lady said I had about an hour to try and find someone to take them. I was unable to do so. I’m haunted by their beautiful faces, looking hopefully at the camera. Their names were Buckwheat and Fearless.
If you live in the Puget Sound area, and are interested in helping Dalmatians in need, please leave a message, so we can start building a rescue network.
