A very sad day

I’ve been meaning to put together a “dog blog” for months, in the hope of reaching other like minded people who might be interested in creating a rescue network for Dalmatians in need. Since the loss of my best friend Jasmine in April, I’ve adopted Harley, an elderly fellow who was rescued by the good people of Old Dog Haven. Next came Admiral, another old fellow whose owner was leaving the state. Next came Friday, the Dal mix puppy who was set to be euthenized after only 5 days in a shelter in Idaho. I continue to keep track of Dalmatians listed in Petfinder. This weekend, 2 beautiful fellows were listed by a local shelter. I called to ask about them yesterday in the morning, and got the answering machine. When I called again in the afternoon, I was informed that the dogs had been surrendered by their owner, who had lost their home, and that the dogs were going to be destroyed this afternoon, because of aggression toward other dogs. Aggression is not uncommon for dogs who under extreme stress. My own beloved Jasmine would have shown aggression toward other dogs in that situation. The lady said I had about an hour to try and find someone to take them. I was unable to do so. I’m haunted by their beautiful faces, looking hopefully at the camera. Their names were Buckwheat and Fearless.

If you live in the Puget Sound area, and are interested in helping Dalmatians in need, please leave a message, so we can start building a rescue network.
